Securing a successful career after Birkbeck.
The Work Readiness Programme
What's in it for you?
See. Learn. Do. The Time is Now. This academic year, Birkbeck Careers partnered with exciting employers to curate the Work Readiness Programme, a series of events and workshops exploring a diversity of skills, designed to inspire you to pursue careers that matter in technology and health and social care.
The Work Readiness Programme will equip you with the skills, confidence and experience you need for a successful career progression.
Our goal is to create a community of Birkbeck students inspired and empowered to pursue work they love in technology and social work, two high-growth and high-potential sectors in the UK and beyond.
The Programme is a partnership between Birkbeck College and The J.P. Morgan Foundation.

Join the revolution.
Now is the time to break into tech.
The UK’s digital economy is thriving and tech-skills are more sought-after than ever before. With the help and guidance of top employers, explore the great variety of roles in technology, tap into innovation, solve user problems, create amazing experiences, lead cutting-edge research and improve lives.
Health & Social care
Be someone who makes a difference.
A career in health and social care is as rewarding as it is challenging. It takes a unique combination of empathy, resilience, and intelligence. No day is ever the same. From social work to counselling and psychotherapy, medicine-related careers and psychology, you can work with individuals (from babies through to the elderly) and families to create a life-changing impact.
We are committed to diversity.
Women in Tech
When it comes to careers in technology, the gender paradox persists. At a time when the tech sector outpaces the employment market, only 16% of the UK’s technology workforce is female. Yet women can hack, code, design, engineer, mentor, lead, innovate and be all-around amazing. We want to tap into this potential by inspiring more women to excel in tech careers. It's time to debug the gender gap!
London’s diversity is one of the strongest attributes of its
overall make-up. Our city offers a multiculturalism that is unique to almost any other global hub and we must therefore embrace it. Birkbeck, one of the most ethnically diverse universities in the UK, is in a privileged position to be at the forefront of celebrating and further investing in the capital’s multicultural population. The Work Readiness Programme gives us a pretty good reason to do so!
People with Disabilities
The workplace is changing. With businesses looking to create a more agile workforce and untapped talent looking for work, there has never been a better time for employers to be positive about disability and to profit from the unique skills and attributes of disabled people.
